I'm in Love...
I'm back. Sort of. Leah, my darling wedding photographer and friend has commissioned me to make some pieces as gifts. This has got me looking around at other jewelers' designs and how they assemble their chains. There are some pretty creative and elegant ideas out there that I have felt guilty about stealing, but according to my friend and fellow artist Erin, people steal ideas all the time! Nothing is new anymore! That was really reassuring as I had been feeling dry and empty as far as my creativity was concerned. But I guess it's true - musicians do it, why can't visual artists?
I spent some hours at my bench last night working on these pieces and had such an amazing time. Slacker.com on 80s Alternative kept me company and as I rocked out to songs by The Jam and Book of Love I realized that sitting at my bench is the best therapy ever for me. It feeds my soul and I'm in love with my bench. When I stopped for the night, I looked down at it in all it's disorder and thought to myself, all this messiness means I'm designing and being productive. Disarray is a beautiful thing.
Today I have to be out of town. I'm really going to miss my bench, like I miss my husband when he's away. It's an empty feeling but it will only make the reunion that much more enjoyable.
